Ultra Pop Part 3
2nd edition — by Patrick McNeil — Mar. 19, 2007
The Design Element
This pattern of using super saturated colors seems to be here to stay. I particularly love how it escapes the limits of print and uses colors that would be next to impossible to print making the web a unique medium.
One of the more successful examples of this is the
AM Design
site. Not only do they have this intense background color, but they have worked the style into all of the photographs used in the content section. This takes the style from trendy usage to a new level. This site is quiet distinct and leaves a lasting impression.
I tried to include a lot of diversity in this collection as I did with the previous edition. For some reason I am fascinated to find this style in the most serious (or un-fun) topics such as
infrastructure
. Other sites you find the color to really be the focal point as on
Small Positives
. To be sure, this is a flexible color type to use, just as much as any other color. I tend to prefer sets of sample sites that seem more unified, which this feels less like, but hopefully it will challenge your thinking in some way.
